The dist cap gasket does need replacing, but not critical at this point...I want the oil to stop getting inside the distributor. There's a difference between an o-ring and a gasket. I ordered a nice set of 16 x 7 Rims with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)to go with a set of 235/60HR16 Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires.....these tires are FANTASTIC. They grip a wet road like no other and are standard on BMW 5-series cars. Their load rating is a 98H which exceeds the axle requirements for the Ody, so you are legal. I got 5 tires/rims because we Touring folks have no spare and I wanted a full size. Does the title have a clean history? Some title is rebuilt. This means thecar had been damaged before. And something of the car is rebuilt. If you buy acar from the owner, ask him how long he/she drove the car and why he/she want tosell it. If you buy from dealer, ask if there will be some charges such asdealership. They will charge you additional money. Sometimes the car was involved in accident, then some parts were changed to anew one. In this case, it is difficult to find the part with exactly colormatch. This is why some cars get a new paint. Sometimes you even can find thatsome parts are older than others. All of this indicate that the car was in anaccident. Set up a claim number and then called the area dealers for PAX costs, best was $192 for the tire plus $75 each tire for labor (!). FYI another dealer 15 miles away was charging $300/tire plus $100 each for labor and my local honda dealer did not have the PAX machine even though the Michelin database said they did. Just cleaned/regapped my spark plugs and cleaned up the cap & rotor contacts. Because of oil collecting on the inside bottom of the cap, I decided to go ahead and replace the o-ring oil seal as well. But last night when looking at the dist out of the engine, I'm wasn't sure that replacing that large o-ring will solve the problem. There looks to be a way for oil to get to the distributor shaft bearing (shoulda gotten pics) on purpose, but is there another smaller o-ring or seal that I've overlooked? The exploded diagrams I can find don't actually explode the distributor, so I can't see one and attempting to disassemble it was futile for the time I had. I spray WD-40 on my wheels before I go to the car wash,then when you get to the car wash, all you have to do is pressure wash the brake dust off...works great.
Every rim has been damaged and I am trying to work a deal to have them take care of switching to a wheel and tire of my chasing along with a spare donught in the lazy susan well of the floor. I am not taking the odyssey off the lot until they have made it right by me. If they supply me with a 17" wheel and tire I have chosen I will let the matter drop. If they don't I will take photographs of the wheel damage done by them and retain an attorney. I am not going to put up with this insane monoply that Michelin and Honda have conspired in. This system is wrong and I will pursue it as far as humanly possible. The replacement wheel was priced to me at $400.00 each. If they don't take care of my request on Monday I will try to contact the media myself. Have you ever dreamed of owning your own car? Before you start mapping out the route to the nearest beach, you just might want to learn some valuable car-buying tips. If you have proof of reporting the noise before 10K miles, e.g, in one of the service orders, some dealers would honor that and replace all 4 tires even if your current mileage is over 10K. They may also contact BMW to get authorization. I think BMW is footing the bill, but different dealerships may handle these cases differently. Even if they would only do 2, it's better than none. Some dealers offered the other two tires at cost. If not, you can always go elsewhere to get the other 2 done at a more reasonable price. The O-ring around the shaft and the top gasket will not stop the oil from getting into the Dist. Somehow oil leaks internally into the Dist. after a few years and a few hundred K on these motors. I have had to replace two on 2 different cars (both were a camry) It does take a bit of work to get a reman Dist. back in the hole. Just use plenty of vasoline and take your time.
