The dist cap gasket does need replacing, but not critical at this point...I want the oil to stop getting inside the distributor. There's a difference between an o-ring and a gasket. Keep a microfiber cloth dry in the car so that you can use them to clean the dashboard of a car in the long red lights or traffic jams. Sometimes you will get it by leaving.
