There has been some talk about the Bridgestone having a new modified version, but it's unclear if that's actually true. I have a 2005 Touring model and yes, my tires only lasted 20K miles. Honda offered a $ 200 per tire swap...and that was it. For that money, I can get a GREAT tire vs the TRUCK TIRES the Odyssey uses...that's right, those Michelin tires are rated as TRUCK TIRES. Van owned for 13 months, 16,000 miles. New tread depth on PAX is 10/32, mine were 3/32 front and 7/32 rear. Michelin specs are minimum of 4/32 tread depth. Called Michelin at 877-pax-tire (aw, how cute) they now have 24/7 support BTW, that tells you something right there. This is a follow-up of my original post, where I had reported the tire going completely flat in a few hours and then held the pressure for more than a day later. I brought it to Town Fair Tire for an inspection. They took the tire off the wheel, smooth the rim and remounted it. I was told that there was a bit of corrosion and roughness on the rim. This makes sense to me as the leak may vary depending on whether the rough spot is close to the ground when the car is parked. A tire store would only want to sell us a new tire for $200+, if they happen to carry the same brand/size we need. This is entirely understandable because it is reasonable to assume that some internal damage or weakening have taken place after a flat tire is driven 50 miles. Nobody can look at the tire and tell you that it’s safe to keep using it. BMW dealers would always have the right tire in stock, but the price is expected to be 50-100% higher than a discount tire store. What can we do to avoid this problem? By this I usually try to avoid a picking a particular make or model of used car. Instead I prefer to look for a style of vehicle. For instance my last purchase, I was looking for a small sedan, one in good to great condition, it had to have 4 cylinders (for fuel economies sake) and have a manual transmission. I also wanted a car that was less than 4 years old. The auction I attended on this day, I had been through the auction catalogue online and determined there were about 6 cars that matched my criteria. I bid on the first three cars without making a purchase, they all sold above my price limit, and once I reach that limit I stop cold (that’s my second rule, set a maximum price and stick to it). As the forth car came up for auction I noticed there was far fewer people bidding, I usually wait before I bother to bid to have a look at who else is interested. Always run the right type of gasoline for your car or truck. The user manual indicates which type is ideal for the best performance possible. It is not wise to ignore this as it is there for a reason. Do what is best for your vehicle. Set up a claim number and then called the area dealers for PAX costs, best was $192 for the tire plus $75 each tire for labor (!). FYI another dealer 15 miles away was charging $300/tire plus $100 each for labor and my local honda dealer did not have the PAX machine even though the Michelin database said they did. Vinyl protector is ideal for cleaning the car, but if decide to use it use it regularly, otherwise, let dry the dashboard and can cause cracks in vinyl.
