Carry a pressure guage and a small tire pump in the trunk at all times. In my '06 330xi, a small well under the trunk floor fits my tire pump perfectly. When the tire pressure warning comes on, don't keep driving on the flat if you can avoid it. Stop the car at a safe spot, pump up the flat, re-initialize the TPMS, and then drive to find a service station. If you get there before the warning comes on again, chances are that the tire has not been ruined and the tire can be repired. Most nail punctures are slow leaks. If you have not driven on the flat, no damage has been done and you shouldn’t have to replace it. How to find out the value of the car? There are several sites about the valueof the car. Keep in mind that the Kelly blue book value should be higher thanthe price you should pay. Here is agood website to findout the value of the car. Continental seems to get less less complaints and they are less expensive than the OEM Bridgestone EL42-RFT. I asked the local Town Fair Tire store and they told me that they could get the Conti overnight and costs about $200. Tirerack.com carries it for about $150 + shipping/mounting/balance. Getting 20K miles out of the Bridgestone is not so bad as it has a relatively low rating on wear compared to others. There has been some talk about the Bridgestone having a new modified version, but it's unclear if that's actually true. If the car is being bid on only by used car dealers, the chances are good that you will be able to snap up the vehicle at a price at (or very close to) the wholesale price. Car dealers of course want to be able to on sell there purchases at a fair price so they too will only bid up to what they consider a realistic price. I changed the o-ring on the distributor shaft. The dist cap gasket does need replacing, but not critical at this point...I want the oil to stop getting inside the distributor. There's a difference between an o-ring and a gasket. Keep your battery clean and check it regularly to ensure that it is maintaining a proper charge. Allowing the battery to get filthy can be problematic. During this time I developed some simple ground rules that I think take all the guess work out of using an auction as a viable means to getting a great deal on a used car. A few other items: Since I didn't bring proof of tire rotation and my tires were on the high side on pressure (which was done by a honda dealer BTW as the TPMS kept saying the pressure was low) Michelin resisted paying anything until I told the dealer I was going to keep the old tires for the lawsuit that was filed in LA in March, then within literally 10 seconds the Michelin rep agreed to pay 70% as a 'goodwill' gesture. Also I have had two Michelins with material defects on my Pilot. Expect to lose a day if you go thru this tire claim process, it took us 6 hours today. Time to call the TIRE RACK at 1-800 428 8355(go ahead and google them -they have a great web site. I ordered a nice set of 16 x 7 Rims with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)to go with a set of 235/60HR16 Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires.....these tires are FANTASTIC. They grip a wet road like no other and are standard on BMW 5-series cars. Their load rating is a 98H which exceeds the axle requirements for the Ody, so you are legal. I got 5 tires/rims because we Touring folks have no spare and I wanted a full size. For detail cleaning on the dashboard, the best thing to use is a soft paintbrush. It gets into all the grooves . Is there a difference between a Japan manufactured Camry versus the Us Camry's window switch assembly (driver side)? I have a friend that has a broken one and he claims that he cannot find one due to the fact his camry was made in Japan. I have located one at a local AP store for $65.00. He has been quoted $300.00 for one. |
