How to Buy a New Car with the Lowest Price

Driving a new car is delightful, but without proper preparation, purchase of a new car can be quite expensive. This 6-step article is all you need to get a bargain.

Getting price quotes from different car dealers and letting them know that you will purchase the car from the lowest bidder is the most important secret for lowest price.

Step 1: Locate all dealers nearby.

Using Google or other websites, you can easily find all dealers selling new cars within your reach. Make sure you can get at least 10 dealers around your area. Car dealers that are far away from your familiar place are equally important because you can get low price by using them as ammunition against other car dealers. While you find the locations, be sure to keep record of the dealers’ phone numbers for following steps.

Step 2: Get at least 10 price offers.

With this method, you don’t even have to go to any dealership and deal with a salesman. As a matter of fact, haggling prices with a salesman might be the most undesirable thing you will ever do during a car purchase. The salesman will probably waste hours of your time and eventually use various car-dealer scams to rip off you. For instance, one common scam is the “turnover” scam. They switch salesman to wear you down, which is called the “turnover” as they keep turning you over to the next aggressive sales person until you are worn down.

The number of dealers you contact determines how powerful your ammunition can get. Make sure you have all the phone numbers you need and start with the nearest one. When you are calling, ask for the fleet manager because these people are the ones that are most likely to offer you the lowest price. The reason is that they usually don’t work on commissions. The purpose of each call is to get the following information: dealership’s name, fleet manager’s name, phone number and email. Then send the fleet manager an email and ask for the manager’s price offer.

Step 3: Check prices online.

Get an online price quote to make sure you don’t miss any price offers. What’s good about online pricing is that the bid comes directly from an internet sales manager, so it’s quite possible that you can get a lower bid from the same dealership you just phoned. As we are trying to get the lowest price, so you’d better not miss any chances.

Step 4: Follow up.

After you sent the emails, you will receive the bids one after another. But some of the fleet managers are busy or simply forget to reply your email. Just send them another email to follow up. If they still don’t reply, follow up by making a phone call to see if they received your emails. The purpose is just to get a bid from them either via phone call or via email.

Step 5: Give the dealers a chance to beat the lowest bid.

After you receive all the bids, compare them to determine which one is the best deal. Add the invoice price and the dealer add-on fees together and see who offered the best overall deal after all additional fees have been taken into account. After you find out who offered the best deal, contact each fleet manager as to give them a chance to beat the lowest price. The best way to do this is to call each fleet manager starting with the highest bid. If the fleet manager does offer a lower bid than the lowest bid currently, the next call you make will include the new lowest bid. Just go down the list of dealerships until you have called all of them.

Step 6: Finalize purchase in writing and pick up your car.

After the first 5 steps, you have found the lowest bid, which is the final bid for your new car. Now that you have the lowest price in front of you, all you have to do is to call or email the dealer and get everything in writing. Don’t go to the dealership until you get the deal in writing form for some dealers just use low price to attract you to the dealership and then tell you the car you want is not available and persuade you to buy another car at a higher profit. The writing should state that they have the exact vehicle you want and the vehicle id number, MSRP, invoice price, additional fees and the outdoor price. Bring the writing in paper with you when you go to the dealership. Finally, sign the paperwork and pay. After this, you will drive your brand new car home with the lowest price.
